Whitstable Junior School

Learning today for life tomorrow

Each year the school participates in the Kent Process for Entry into Secondary Education (PESE).  Parents of children in Year 5 are able to enter their children for the Kent Test in Year 6 in order to apply for entry to a grammar school. Typically around 50% of our Year 6 will sit the test and approximately 25 - 30% will achieve selective scores and be considered for grammar school admission.

At WJS children in Year 5 sit CAT tests (Cognitive Abilities Test), the scores of which give some indication of each child's potential outcome if they were to sit the Kent Test. These scores combined with a parent teacher consultation help parents decide if they wish to register their child with Kent County Council to be included in the tests at the beginning of Year 6. The deadline for parents to register is usually the beginning of July and Kent encourages parents to use their online system to do this.

All children in year 6 also take national assessment tests (SATs) in May each year.  It is these results that are published in the national tables of results for Key Stage 2 (KS2).

Please find below our KS2 results - if you would like further explanation or clarification of these figures then please contact the school office and we will be happy to help in any way.
