The BIG Draw
During the last week of term, the staff and children at Whitstable Junior school, celebrated this year's national 'Big Draw' Festival - an annual event that aims to get everyone out and about and drawing - celebrating the importance of play, with activities in many different venues up and down the country. Children from Whitstable Junior School couldn't wait to get involved!
Each class created large 'blocks' out of recycled cardboard boxes, brightly decorated with children's drawings of the games they enjoy. Then, at the end of term, everyone came to the school's Studio, working together to build amazing creations: tigers, forts, towers, dens, Stonehenge...even a dinosaur!
"Play is vital for children's development...and not just in the Early Years! Play helps children collaborate and build friendships, learn new skills, keep healthy and happy, cope with worries and fears, develop their imaginations and create new worlds. Whether active or relaxing, as one of our children said, 'Play is FREEDOM!'"
